I have replaced the keyboard only ONCE in that entire time. The 1TB HDD is still used as an in-machine Time Machine drive for Big Sur.
I upgraded to 1TB SSD and a 1TB HDD and moved to APFS once Catalina came along using the HDD as an in-machine daily clone backup drive (used SuperDuper until Big Sur negated the ability to easily create a bootable clone).
I upgraded the SSD to a larger one and rolled the SSD and HDD into a FUSION drive using the tools apple made available to anyone comfortable with the command line, which I ran with zero issues for several years. I swapped out the super drive (CD/DVD burner) for an SSD (initially a relatively small one to just hold the OS). I upgraded the HDD several times (started life as a 256MB HDD).

This machine has a full compliment of ports with NO dongles needed! I upgraded the ram over time to its max 16GB. This machine was the last of the totally user repairable notebooks Apple made. Without question, a fine example of solid engineering. My daughter gave me this machine as a christmas present in late 2012. Very disappointed.I am among those still using a mid 2012 non-retina 15" MBP.

Well, if right out of the box the thing feels like it will burn a hole through my pants, then I would prefer to take my chances with a PC that costs $600 less. The one reason I allowed myself to be talked into this product was the constant arguments that the macs come without all of the glitches and problems of PCs.
I was just looking around when I found the chess game and started playing until I just could not bear the heat any longer I have not even gotten a chance to register it. I did not having anything specific running, except whatever is already there during first use. I am not an Apple or even laptop guru - I did own an HP laptop for a couple of years and never felt heat coming from it like this especially after just 10 minutes or so. I jumped on my desktop to see if there was any information online about this, and found this thread. I just got home with my new macbook and I litterally could not get through one chess game before the bottom of the thing started to become unbearably hot. If that is the only choice, i will plan for Retina one which is having more heat Vent but i here this also have HEAT Issues, but £££ lol. I don’t want to go for alien-ware to be honest I don’t like them.

In Boot Camp Win7- 64bit battery is not as good as I think 3hrs in normal browsing / video, any idea on this?
